There are many treatment options for fibromyalgia, and I choose to do all natural treatments. I’ve had people ask why I choose natural when there are “good” medications available to me. Is it because of a religious choice? Or is it because I have something against other treatments? No. Here is why natural treatments for fibromyalgia are MY choice.
When I was first diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the winter of 2012, my physician immediately suggested that I take an antidepressant. She insisted that the medication would help with the pain by allowing me to get better quality sleep at night. I was hesitant, but I agreed to take the lowest effective dosage possible.
The next three days were a fog. The first day didn’t have much effect on me other than I was not as on edge as usual. The second and third days were very different. It felt as though I was just seeing through my eyes, but I had no feelings of what was happening. It was though I was a zombie. It was terrible.
By the fourth day I developed a terrible migraine. I didn’t know if I was going to faint or vomit. Light, sounds, everything hurt. I couldn’t go to the emergency room because we were trapped in our home almost three miles at the top of a mountain during Winter Storm Sandy. It was not good.
After that terrible incident, I stayed in bed for a few days to re-evaluate how I wanted to go about treating my ailment. I talked with my husband and he let me know from the beginning that he would support any decision I made – medication or not – as long as I wasn’t in pain.
Here is what I decided on that day: No more medicine. All natural from then on out.
Disclaimer – I have nothing against people that choose to take medications for their illness. I neither think less of them nor do I see it as a weakness.
The three reasons why natural treatments for fibromyalgia are my choice are:
- Addicts in my family
- My belief in my body to do amazing things when properly equipped.
- Power of prayer and a strong spiritual belief.
Reason #1 – Addiction runs in my family. That is no secret. I will not go into details and I will not speak about addiction because I have not experienced it. I cannot speak about what I do not know. What I do know is the aftermath of addiction. I do not want my husband and kids to experience that. This is not to say that someone that takes medication will develop an addiction. What I am saying is that I have too many “what ifs”.
Reason #2 – My body is an amazing creation by God. If given the right nutrition and other essentials, I believe it can heal on its own. Do not mistake this statement for being naive. I know there are illnesses that cannot be healed without medication; however, if it comes to the point where natural is not winning, I’ll deal with it then.
Reason #3 – Now, I know in the first paragraph I said it wasn’t a religious reason about choosing natural treatments and then I list a religious reason of why I choose natural treatment.
Let me clear the confusion – Some people do not take medication because they believe it goes against God. That is not the reason in my case.
My spiritual reason is that I seek comfort in prayers and God. There are some pains that medicine cannot treat. It is my belief that any pain can be comforted by God and seeking solace in the bible. When I say comfort, I do not mean taken away. I simply mean more at peace and more accepting. I have been in situations when my pain has been unbearable, and the only comfort I got was prayer.
How’s natural treatment going so far? It’s going great! I feel better than I have felt in years. I still experience flares from time to time, but overall my condition has drastically improved once I committed myself to natural treatment.
I know my situation may change as far as treatment options, but for now natural treatment is what I choose to treat my fibromyalgia and chronic pain. Here is my natural treatment regiment for chronic pain.

Great article! I deal with high cortisol and the only treatment option open to me was a natural supplement. It has helped a great deal and I thank God every day that I found it. Best wishes on your journey with Fibromyalgia!
What side effects are there with high cortisol? I know I’ve got issues with my adrenal glands, but I need to address it with my doctor. I’m hoping there are natural treatments to correct it.
Thanks for reading!
Wow, I “accidentally” ~ Not ~ stumbled onto your blog somehow and I’m so glad that I did.
Basically the same story for me. Hallucinations and regularity problems were the side effects that troubled me the most. And I wanted to have a baby without the meds. That was almost 16 years ago.
It was the Blood Type diet that got me started on the path to nutrition and only because I had already discovered that most of the avoid foods bothered me. I felt so much better and that convinced me that a natural approach was better for me.
Now, I don’t follow it exclusively anymore (I do THM) and especially with a large family, but I do try avoiding certain things as much as possible.
Since addiction runs in my family as well, I struggle often with food issues and that can make things difficult.
As a Catholic, offering up my pain in union with Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, and knowing that God really does bring the greater good, has been a source of serenity and comfort in times of frustration, depression and pain.
I read this this morning and maybe you will find comfort in it too. God bless and I look forward to hearing more of your journey. Thank you so much for sharing it.
“The distance separating Our Lord from the house where Lazarus lived was about a day’s journey… in all it would have been four days since He received the news. God’s delays are mysterious; sorrow is sometimes prolonged for the same reason for which it is sent. God may abstain for the moment from healing, not because Love does not love, but because Love never stops loving, and a greater good is to come from the woe. Heaven’s clock is different from ours.”

What an amazing and inspirational quote! Thank you for leaving it for me to read. One of my friends told me about the blood type diet and I was amazed by how the foods to avoid were the foods that bring me the most discomfort. Natural isn’t for everyone, but I’m grateful that natural paired with spirituality brings me comfort when it’s needed.
Thank for reading my article!

There is power in “natural”, only thing is many do not have faith in it. But I know that chemical medecines generally have side effects….
I pray God will honour your faih and grant you peace and health in your body.
Thank you for the kind words! I cannot take many medicines because of their side effects which is unfortunate for me during the times I absolutely need them. Thank you for reading and commenting!
I also have addiction in my family. Makes me leary of pain meds for sure. I was forced to go natural a few years ago when I lost my health insurance. I was on lyrics and antidepressants. I began to feel more alert and less fatigued. That’s when I realized the meds were making me feel worse, not better. I have been all natural for 4 years and I do think my quality of life is way better.
I know what you mean. After my three day experience with antidepressants, I am avoiding them for sure! Thanks for reading my article!

Me, too!
think I’ve had fibromyalgia for many years but was diagnosed approximately 10 years ago. I was working at Walmart and was just exhausted. Not the tiredness that sleep helps. I mean totally exhausted, with muscle pain. My primary doctor diagnosed fibromyalgia. I couldn’t move my right arm with out getting a lot of pain. I was taking Lyrica, it helps but I still have to be careful not to over do things. I was trying to have a child-don’t know if I’ll be able to do it! I lost touch with reality.I started on Health Herbal Clinic Fibromyalgia Disease Herbal formula treatment in September 2016, i read alot of positive reviews on their success rate treating Fibromyalgia disease through their Fibromyalgia Herbal formula and i immediately started on the treatment. Just 7 weeks into the Herbal formula treatment I had great improvements, my right hand pain seized and the stiffed, rigid muscle had succumbed. I am unbelievably back on my feet, this is a breakthrough for all Fibromyalgia sufferers, visit Health Herbal Clinic official website www. healthherbalclinic. net or email info@ healthherbalclinic. net.
