I’m pretty certain this is the first novel I’ve read by co-authors. I was a little skeptical about how it was going to turn out, but my hopes were high based on the reviews I’ve read about it. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen did not disappoint in their psychological thriller, You Are Not Alone.

Shay Miller is a lonely middle-aged woman with a male roommate she is in love with (Sean), but Sean has a steady, serious girlfriend. As a temp, Shay is looking for a more permanent job with a reliable company, but can’t seem to find one. She loves statistics and keeps random statistics in what she calls her Data Book, something she’s done since childhood. Analyzing facts and how these facts connect is something she enjoys doing and is seeking a job in that area of expertise.

After witnessing a horrific suicide of a young nurse named Amanda, Shay is consumed with this unknown woman’s death. She has so many questions such as why Amanda would throw herself in front of a train and why a seemingly happy woman who loved to help others be so desperate to seek death as the only relief?

This book is also available with Kindle Unlimited Membership Plans.

Determine to find these answers, Shay embarks on digging into who this stranger was and going so far as to attend her memorial service and even visit her former residence. This inquiry into Amanda’s life is alarming to Amanda’s close circle of friends: sisters Cassandra and Jane, Valerie, Beth, Daphne, and Stacey. In turn, they also want to find out who Shay is and what her mysterious connection to Amanda really is.

Cassandra and Jane, the natural leaders of the group of friends, position themselves to regularly run into Shay at various points in the city. They give reasons to keep visiting her and pretend to forge a friendship with her which they know Shay so desperately wants.

The sisters help Shay secure a new permanent job doing what she loves, insist her to take a perfect sized apartment at an affordable price in a desirable locale (despite it being Amanda’s former place of residence), and encourage her to join an online dating service where she meets the perfect guy. Little does Shay know how perfectly planned all these events are until it’s too late.

Now Shay’s attention is focused on why? Why are the sisters doing all these things for her? What are their true intentions? Through various viewpoints and over a twenty-year span, the story of Amanda’s death is revealed and Shay discovers all the answers to her questions. But is it too late for her?

I liked this addition of real statistics at the beginning of each chapter in You Are Not Alone. Interesting stuff.

My Thoughts

This is a true suspense novel that had me on the edge of my seat. The chapters are short and are an easy read, but the suspense is huge for me. I couldn’t seem to put the book down as each chapter ended, I was eager to read more to find out all these mysteries of the sisters and their motives.

As in all true suspense novels and the nature of psychological thrillers, there are twists and unexpected turns. I wasn’t able to predict any of them which is how I know this is a GOOD READ!! I will definitely be reading the co-authors’ other bestselling novels.

Book of the Month Club

I enjoyed books so much that I joined the Book of the Month Club to continue receiving the latest and greatest books via mail. Some of the books are exclusive to BOTM club members a month prior to their official publishing date! Each month I’m excited about the monthly selections, and it’s tough to select just one. (And when I can’t decide on one, I can add additional books for a small add-on charge and – as always – shipping is included in the monthly membership fee.) Can’t find one you want? That’s okay, too! Skip a month, pocket the credit to spend next month, and you won’t be charged for that current month.

Book Ratings and Reviews

Each book I review is based on my opinion. This does not mean you will agree with the review or love/like/dislike the book, too. There’s a quote that says, “No two persons ever read the same book” by Edmund Wilson, and it’s quite true!
