Having a family of six with one income and living with fibromyalgia requires me to be on a strict budget and live as frugal as I can. There are always ways to make a little extra money, save a little money, and budget more efficiently. I save online, in the stores, and on the go with apps that make money.

I decided to do some research and after using certain apps for the last twelve months or so, these are the 5 apps that make money (all are FREE to join and are listed in no particular order).

5 Apps that make money

Swagbucks

Swagbucks is the FREE rewards program that gives you gift cards and cash for the everyday things you already do online. Earn points called SB when you shop at your favorite retailers, watch entertaining videos, search the web, answer surveys and more! The Swagbucks app lets you do a variety of tasks for fast and easy SB. To learn more about Swagbucks, check out my review What is Swagbucks and How does it work?

Ibotta

I must admit that I was confused by Ibotta at first, but quickly realized I was just over thinking the whole process. It’s really easy! Check Ibotta for the rebates in your area. Buy these products from the store, scan in your receipt, then receive the rebate which is paid out to you in the form of cash or select gift cards.

Sign up for free here and receive $10 when you redeem your first rebate within two weeks of signing up!

Here’s a quick 30 second video explaining how amazing this app is!

Checkout 51

Checkout 51 is also a rebate app. Like Ibotta, sign up with Checkout 51 to save on your favorite brands and earn cash when you upload photo of receipt through mobile app or website. Every Thursday morning, Checkout 51 updates with a new list of offers. All you have to do is pick the ones you like, purchase them at any store, and upload a photo of your receipt through our mobile app or website. When your account reaches $20, we send you a check.

Snap by Groupon

Snap by Groupon is a rebate app. Receive cash back for purchasing certain products that range from household cleaners to fresh produce. Cash out each time you reach $20.

I like this app along with Checkout 51 and Ibotta because you can use the same receipt on the different apps. When this overlap occurs, many times the product will be free after the stacked rebates.

Walmart Savings Catcher

Scan your Walmart receipts using your phone and if there is a lower price at a different local store, Walmart will send you a gift card for the difference or you can choose to load it onto your Bluebird card (which is my preference).

    1. Me, too! It was better when they offered 2x back on the Bluebird debit card, but hopefully they will bring that back soon.

  3. I’ve always been hesitant about trying apps out like this because they seem too good to be true, but I’m glad you wrote about them! I’ll have to look into them! Visiting from Link-It To me Linky Party!

    1. I also was hesitant for the same reason, but it’s been over a year and they pay out on a regular basis. In fact, Ibotta has gotten great bonuses in the last six months. They are my favorite and biggest money maker!
