This week’s review is Little Bee by Chris Cleave. One of my favorite ways to rest is by curling up with a good book. Like movies and music, all genres appeal to me, and I give all books a chance to be ‘heard’!

I won’t spoil the author’s intention of keeping Little Bee a beautiful surprise, so the plot of the novel will not be revealed. However, I will say it’s an incredible story of a refugee from Nigeria and a successful career woman from London.

The chapters are long, but the two women’s story is beautifully and poetically written. I immediately loved the authors writing style from the first paragraph. He brings you into the story softly and gently but keeps you there with an intensity in which you can hear the narrators’ voices and truly feel the nature of their feelings.

This book is also available with Kindle Unlimited Membership Plans.

It’s an immensely sad story, but it’s one you want to hear time and again because of its beauty. It’s a novel of conflicting emotions throughout: sad but beautiful; intense but comforting; strong but soft. These contradictions are made so perfectly in unison I feel as though you can’t have the one without the other in their story of love and hate.

This is a story to be read multiple times.

I started reading this book on Friday. The cover and colors pulled me in to buy it months ago, but I’m only just now getting around to reading it. I had no idea what it was about and the inner jacket really doesn’t reveal anything. However, the mystery of what it is about is certainly intriguing. Instantly I was drawn in with the narrators’ words, of how she is telling her story and the beauty she sees in the world. The author is weaving a poetically stoic tale and I know this is going to be a favorite of mine.

Book of the Month Club

I enjoyed books so much that I joined the Book of the Month Club to continue receiving the latest and greatest books via mail. Some of the books are exclusive to BOTM club members a month prior to their official publishing date! Each month I’m excited about the monthly selections, and it’s tough to select just one. (And when I can’t decide on one, I can add additional books for a small add-on charge and – as always – shipping is included in the monthly membership fee.) Can’t find one you want? That’s okay, too! Skip a month, pocket the credit to spend next month, and you won’t be charged for that current month.

Book Ratings and Reviews

Each book I review is based on my opinion. This does not mean you will agree with the review or love/like/dislike the book, too. There’s a quote that says, “No two persons ever read the same book” by Edmund Wilson, and it’s quite true!
