This review is The Shadows by Alex North. One of my favorite ways to rest is by curling up with a good book. Like movies and music, all genres appeal to me, and I give all books a chance to be ‘heard’!

A quick summary of the novel goes like this: A teenager named Paul is accused of killing his friend at the local school’s playground. He knows he really did the killing but Charlie, the alleged murderer, has completely vanished without a trace. In an attempt to escape the horrific events of that time, Paul moves away vowing never to return. Only he does decades later because his mom has fallen and is now in hospice.

When he returns, his mom begins talking gibberish, or so Paul thinks. As the past starts coming back to him in waves in tandem with killings like those of his past, he begins to doubt his sanity. He attempts to confront his demons by finding the supposedly vanished Charlie and avenge his friend’s death. The only thing is – he reveals more than he can handle and the truth will be harder to face than his friend’s murder.

The Shadows is another great thriller by @writer_north about dreams becoming reality. #thriller #theshadows #alexnorth #bookreviews #brandisbookcorner #beingfibromom Click To Tweet

This book is also available with Kindle Unlimited Membership Plans.

This is the second book I’ve read by Alex North; the first being The Whisper Man. Just as in his previous novel, the author has a great storyline and just enough mystery to keep the reader intrigued. And just as with his first book, I was unable to guess the ending which, to me, is rare and a book worth keeping.

I give it four out of five stars because of the mystery, twists, and writing style. The chapters are short and switch between the past and present. It’s a quick read, too.

Book of the Month Club

I enjoyed books so much that I joined the Book of the Month Club to continue receiving the latest and greatest books via mail. Some of the books are exclusive to BOTM club members a month prior to their official publishing date! Each month I’m excited about the monthly selections, and it’s tough to select just one. (And when I can’t decide on one, I can add additional books for a small add-on charge, and – as always – shipping is included in the monthly membership fee.) Can’t find one you want? That’s okay, too! Skip a month, pocket the credit to spend next month, and you won’t be charged for that current month.

Book Ratings and Reviews

Each book I review is based on my opinion. This does not mean you will agree with the review or love/like/dislike the book, too. There’s a quote that says, “No two persons ever read the same book” by Edmund Wilson, and it’s quite true!
